Bones Apart Trombone Quartet is now in its 10th year and internationally recognised as a leading chamber ensemble. Formed in 1999, the all-female trombone quartet has performed its diverse repertoire worldwide to audiences of all ages.
The members of the ensemble – Becky Smith, Jayne Murrill, Helen Vollam and Lorna McDonald – are committed to raising the profile of the trombone as a chamber music instrument by demonstrating its versatility. Through commissioning works and new arrangements Bones Apart has expanded the boundaries of brass chamber music, widening its appeal to an ever increasing audience.
In 2001 Bones Apart was awarded the coveted chamber music prize by the Royal Over-Seas League leading to appearances at music events such as the Edinburgh International Festival. The quartet has also performed at major concert venues including the Wigmore Hall and St Martin in the Fields, in addition to broadcasts on BBC television and radio.
